I, Monique Huntley am a registered nurse with over 17 years of experience in nursing and over 20 years in the medical community.  Currently, I work at Take Care Health Employer Solutions-Hewlett Packard as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and I precept FNP Students.  As a FNP, I work autonomously managing patient care in a clinic setting.  I asses, diagnose, and treat patients based upon the approved national standards for age-specific competencies.

I have previously worked as a Director over-seeing Nurse Practitioners and as a Clinical Manager II for 5 years with an additional 3 years as the Charge Nurse in labor and delivery.  As a director and clinical manager I was responsible for the day to day operations of the unit.  Additionally, I was responsible for mentoring, educating, coaching, and training staff.

I began my career in nursing at 18 when I became an obstetrician technician at St. Luke’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.  Later at the age of 27 I obtained my LPN from West County Technical School in St. Louis, Mo and began working in vascular trauma.  After graduation I immediately began classes for my registered nurse license.  I moved to Houston, Texas in 1999 and attended San Jacinto College South where I graduated with honors in 2001 as a registered nurse at the age of 30.  In December of 2004 I attended Prairie View A&M University and later graduated in December 2005 Magna Cum Laude at the age of 33.  In June of 2006 I began my journey once again at Prairie View A&M University in Houston, Texas to pursue my Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner Degree.  My scope of nursing has included working in vascular trauma, rehabilitation, medical surgical, geriatric, family practice, internal medicine, and women’s health nursing.  Women and Children’s Health is my specialty with a focus in Adolescent Health.  I am interested in reproductive and sexual health and adolescent dating violence.

I currently attend Texas Woman’s University in Denton, Texas with the goal of obtaining my PhD in Health Studies.  My ultimate goal is to blend my FNP skills with my public health studies in order to improve the health of adolescents in a public/community setting.
